Senior Center ‘soft opening’ gets ball rolling

By Dawn Mitchell

Senior Center Director

It’s definitely an exciting time here at the Senior Center!

We have started a “soft opening,” which means that we are having activities in the East Dining room, with a few exceptions – Painting (Wednesdays at 9 a.m.) and Quilting (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.), which will be in the craft room.

Groups enter in the 870 door – the double doors to the left of the main entrance. There is a bulletin board and hand sanitizer station in the lobby. Masks are required in the common areas (entrance ways, hallways, bathrooms, etc.)

We are trying to keep a few health and safety measures in place to protect all the activities that go on in the Center – Meals On Wheels, Boys and Girls Club kitchen staff, Linn Shuttle and all our seniors who are coming in to enjoy the activities. COVID is still a very present issue, so we are taking this slow so we can hopefully stave off an outbreak with all the extra gathering.

Here are some more activities on the schedule:

– Bridge is from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, in the East Dining Room.

– Pony Tail Canasta is from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, in the East Dining Room.

– Senior Exercise is at 8:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, in the East Dining Room (for now).

– Qi Gong is at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the East Dining Room.

– Yarn Crafts is at 10 a.m. Mondays, in the East Dining Room. The group is exploring the possibility of combining with the Paper Crafts group, to share space and time.

– Writing Group, which has been held on Fridays, will be held if there is interest in restarting the activity. Anyone interested, especially in leading the group, is asked to contact the Senior Center at (541) 367-4775.
