Linn County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into a series of three fires that were set in dry grass early Wednesday morning, Aug. 15, in the Brownsville area.
Sheriff Jim Yon said that at approximately 1:49 a.m., the Linn County 9-1-1 dispatch center received a call of a fire in a ditch on Linn West Drive northwest of Brownsville.
Yon said at 2:04 a.m., within 15 minutes of the original call, a deputy was responding to the area and located an additional ditch fire on Ogle Road. The second fire appeared to have been set within minutes of the deputy’s arrival to the area. Deputies later learned a third ditch fire was located by Halsey/Shedd Fire Department on Ogle Road, approximately a half mile south west of first fire.
Investigations revealed all three fires were set within a 15 minute time frame, Yon said. Each of the fires was started in the dry grass and brush alongside the roadway, near harvested and plowed grass fields.
At of Wednesday morning, there are no suspects and the investigation is continuing, he said.
Anyone with any information on these fires is asked to contact Deputy Thurman at the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at (541) 967-3950.
