Severo Montano

Severo Montano was born on March 5, 1938 in San Fidel, New Mexico and died October 14, 2024 in Hillsboro Nursing Care.

Severo was the youngest of five siblings born to Guadalupe (Montano) Fernandez. He lived in San Fidel until his mother met and married Leo Fernandez. The family moved to Wilder, Idaho and graduated from Wilder High School in 1958. After graduation, he enlisted in the National Guard and served until 1970.

Severo worked for several area farmers and then began working for the Wirth Corporation in Caldwell, Idaho. He married Joan Richards in 1969 and in 1970 the couple moved to Sweet Home, where her parents lived. He was a resident of the Sweet Home community for 54 years. He worked for Willamette Industries Plywood until he retired in 1995.

Severo enjoyed playing racquetball and was a regular at Lebanon courts for many years. In the 80s and 90s he competed in and won multiple local and state racquetball tournaments. He also enjoyed fishing in area lakes.

Severo is survived by his children, Rebecca Leuang Van, who lives in Des Moines, Iowa and Nick Montano, of Beaverton; sisters, Daisy Sarceda of Wilder, Idaho, and Mary Parrish, Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, Leo Fernandez of Sweet Home; granddaughter, Monika Leuang Van of Des Moines and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Guadalupe; his father. Alfredo Montano; his step-father, Leo Fernandez; brothers. Alfred Montano, and Andy Fernandez; and sisters, Rita Enrico, Marcy Kelly and Julie Howel.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in December.
