SH B&G Club offers fall programs, plans fund-raisers

After overcoming funding obstacles earlier this year, the Sweet Home branch of the Boys & Girls Club is offering an afterschool program to any child in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The program, referred to as “Think Big!,” includes daily homework help, a meal, technology education, arts and crafts, and games.

The club also will continue to offer recreational athletics including tackle and flag football, volleyball, and fall baseball.

The leadership and academic support program, Great by 8th, is available to junior high students, thanks to a grant awarded by the Oregon Youth Development Council. The program will connect teens with community projects, academic support, and planning for the transition to high school.

The $120,000 fund-raising goal was met for the 2014-15 school year. Ron Moore, co-chair of the Sweet Home Club Branch Council, said the goal for the 2015-16 budget also is $120,000. Adjustments have been made to program and athletic fees for this year’s budget, according to the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam.

Several fund-raising events are planned to help support the Sweet Home Boys & Girls Club:

The Fall Auction is scheduled for Oct. 10, 2015 at the Sweet Home Clubhouse. This year’s theme is “A Redneck Red Carpet Affair – Local Yokels Raisin’ $$$ for Kids.” This year, a myriad of sponsorships are available for purchase – auction pens, welcome and thank you gifts, etc. which can be branded with a business logo.
