After almost a week off due to the rain, the Huskies faced La Pine Monday evening, Coach Steve Hummer said. “The Huskies looked a little rusty, only getting three hits against a tough La Pine pitcher, who pitched an outstanding game.”
The Huskies led 1-0 after two innings. They broke the game open in the sixth with some opportunistic base running. They collected four runs off three walks and three stolen bases.
“We struggled at the plate tonight,” Hummer said. “Their pitcher did a great job keeping us off balance, and we really had to battle to make something happen. The girls were very aggressive on the bases and we put a lot of pressure on them in the sixth.”
Katie Virtue and Hailey Hummer took extra bases on aggressive base running, and both led to runs, Hummer said. “We didn’t do it the way we would have liked to tonight, but we found a way to get it done.”
Megan Graville pitched a great game, Hummer said. She struck out 11 batters and walked none. La Pine got three hits throughout the first two innings, and then Graville stepped up.
She allowed two base runners after the second inning on a hit and a Huskies miscue, Hummer said. She retired 12 of the last 13 batters she faced, eight of them by strikeout.
“Megan really dominated tonight,” Hummer said. “Fun to watch – a great job.”

The Huskies defeated the only other undefeated team in Sky Em play on April 12 at home.
They made the Tigers pay early in the game for some inconsistent pitching and built a big lead, Hummer said. The game was never close. The Huskies led 4-0 after after one inning and 8-0 after two.
Shelbey Gillespie went 2-3 with a three-run homerun in the first and a double in the third inning.
“Junction City really struggled at the plate, and I was please at our discipline,” Hummer said. “We took the walks. They walked us five times in the first two innings, and we were able to take advantage of it. Tasha Saunders picked up a two-RBI single in the second inning and we never looked back.”
Bayli Riggs pitched well, striking out three and walking one. Graville came in to finish the game in the fifth.
Hailey Hummer led the way on the bases, stealing three bases for the Huskies, who stole a total of seven bases on the day.
