SH falls to Philomath, Central

Philomath 45, Sweet Home 28

Philomath defeated the Husky girls basketball team 45-28 in Sweet Home on Thursday.

The Warriors held Sweet Home scoreless in the first quarter, leading 15-0.

“If you look past the first quarter, we made a game of it,” Coach Dave Goetz said.

The Huskies put points on the board in the second quarter to trail 24-10 at halftime. Philomath led 33-17 at the end of the third quarter.

“I just think we dug ourselves such a deep hole, it was difficult (climb out),” Goetz said Monday. Later in the game, the Huskies responded well “as you can see by the scores.

“We made some mistakes defensively with rotation that hopefully we corrected. That will help us tonight when we play them again.”

Jenny Hamn led Husky scoring with eight points. Hillary McCartin added 7; Alex Thompson, four; Ashley Danielson, four; Nicole Fagan, three; and Paige Niemi, two. Heather Polley played but did not score.
