Megan Moser shot a 48 for nine holes to take fifth place in a girls golf invitational hosted by Sweet Home at Mallard Creek May 2.
The event was cut to nine holes because of lightning and severe weather, Coach Jason Gorham said.
“It was a tough day and I was excited to see Megan bounce back and get herself ready for the District match,” Gorham said. The district tournament was held Tuesday, May 8.
Newport, led by medalist Kate Bigelow (41) took the team victory with a 192, followed by Waldport (201), Tillamook (221), Molalla (225), Toldeo (231), Stayton (234) and Lebanon (281). Sweet Home did not finish in the team standings because the Huskies only had three players on the course.
Janessa VanEpps shot 66 for the Huskies, while Tana Tyler finished with 77.
On May 1 the Huskies played at Aspen Lakes in their last league match before districts. Moser shot 124 and Tyler finished with 134,
“Tana played very well, shooting a 134,” Gorham said. “This is the course we will be playing for District, so Megan is hoping to put in a better performance next week.”
Sisters scored a 389 for first, followed by Cottage Grove (453) and La Pine (477). Hollly Ewing of Cottage Grove shot 89 to take medalist honors, edging Shelby Ross and Lindsay Reeve of Sisters, both of whom shot 90. Marist also participated in the event but, like Sweet Home, did not field a complete team of five players.
