SH girls lose to Elmira and Sisters; face league leaders this week

The Huskies lost to Elmira 71-30 at home Friday and Sisters 44-20 on the road Jan. 13 in girls varsity basketball.

With the losses they are 0-3 in league. Cottage Grove, 3-0 and ranked 20th in the state, is leading the Sky-Em ahead of eighth-ranked Junction City, 2-1, and Sutherlin 2-1. Elmira and Sisters, both 1-2, are tied for fifth.

Sweet Home was scheduled to host Cottage Grove on Tuesday, visit Junction City Friday and visit Sutherlin on Feb. 2.

Elmira 71, Sweet Home 30

Elmira took the lead out of the gate and were ahead 22-10 after one quarter, led by Sydney Greene hitting four threes, and 37-22 at halftime. The Falcons grew their lead to 55-27 by the end of the third quarter.

Kayla Miller and Rachel Busek led scoring for the Huskies with eight points each. Green led the Falcons with 16 points.

Sisters 44, Sweet Home 20

The two teams opened their game evenly, with Sisters leading 6-5 after the first quarter.

The Outlaws pulled ahead 26-9 by halftime and 33-13 by the end of the third quarter.

Mauer led the Huskies with eight points, while Rylee Weber led the Outlaws with 11.

Junior Varsity

The Huskies junior varsity lost to Elmira 53-32 and beat Sisters 36-31. The team has built a 9-4 record overall.
