SH man arrested after standoff

A Sweet Home man was arrested early Sunday morning, Dec. 3, after, police said, he barricaded himself and SWAT Team members responded to a home in Mountain Shadows mobile home park.

According to Sweet Home Police Chief Jeff Lynn, James Ronald Rodman, 57, was arrested on a variety of charges after a series of incidents that began with a report that Rodman had assaulted his wife on Friday, Dec. 1, at 1530 Tamarack St., Space 218.

Lynn said Rodman refused to come out to speak with police during the initial and subsequent attempts to speak with him about the incident. Officers had cinitially cleared from the residence, Lynn said.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, SHPD received a report of a disturbance involving an assault that had occurred at the Sweet Home Veteran’s Club, 580 Main St., Sweet Home. A responding officer located the suspect vehicle associated with the assault and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, Lynn said. The vehicle did not yield for the officer and continued driving to 1530 Tamarack St., space 218. The officer identified the suspect in the vehicle as Rodman.

Lynn said Rodman fled into the residence. Additional officers responded and were unable to convince the suspect to exit the residence.

At that point, when it was determined that Rodman had barricaded himself inside the residence, police called in the Linn County interagency SWAT Team. Lynn said Rodman agreed to come out of his residence prior to any SWAT entry.

Because Rodman is a convicted felon, and officers were told there were firearms in the residence, a search warrant was executed at the residence at approximately 3:31 a.m. Sunday. During the search of the residence, officers located and seized three firearms and numerous rounds of ammunition of various types, Lynn said.

Rodman was lodged in Linn County Jail. He is charged with felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of fourth-degree assault, interfering with a peace officer, attempting to elude police in a vehicle, and attempting to elude police on foot.
