SH man dies after truck rolls

A Sweet Home man was killed Friday, Aug. 9, after his pickup rolled into an embankment along U.S. Forest Service Road 11 about 31 miles east of Sweet Home in the Quartzville Corridor.

Tracy Lee Moore, 48, died from injuries he sustained in the crash, said Undersheriff Bruce Riley.

The crash occurred at about 9:10 p.m. Friday on Forest Service Road 11, a single-lane gravel road extending from Quartzville Road.

Moore was the driver of the 1974 Ford pick-up, Riley said. His passengers were Clint Leroy Moore, 44, of Cottage Grove; Jesse Leroy Moore, 35, of Albany; and Octavia Freedom Lee Leach, 20, of Albany.

The group had been traveling west on Road 11 when the vehicle began fishtailing on the gravel road, causing Tracy Moore to lose control, Riley said.

The vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side and slammed into an embankment.

Witnesses from nearby campsites rendered aide and were able to push the pick-up back onto its wheels, Riley said.

Moore was partially ejected and found pinned under the vehicle. He died at the scene. All passengers were transported to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Deputies believe excessive speed was a contributing factor to the crash, and all occupants were reported as wearing seat belts, Riley said.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel transported the deceased pending further arrangements.

Deputies were assisted by the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District.
