SH resident facing child porn charge

The Linn County District Attorney has filed a charge of attempted use of a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct against Lawrence Glenn Mahlberg, 55, of Sweet Home.

Mahlberg was arrested by Sweet Home Police Aug. 8 at South Fork manufactured home park, 3224 Main St., on three charges.

Mahlberg was arraigned on the attempted use of a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, a class B felony, on Aug. 9. The district attorney’s information alleges that the defendant on Aug. 8 unlawfully attempted to involve a child in sexually explicit conduct for a person to observe or to record visually.

The district attorney did not file on two of the charges, attempt to commit private indecency and attempted prostitution.

Police had investigated a report that a male had been propositioning juveniles at a local trailer park, said Police Chief Jeff Lynn. The charge of attempted use of a child in a display involved a female under the age of 12 on Aug. 8.

An adult contacted police after being notified of the alleged incident, Lynn said.

Mahlberg is scheduled for a plea and sentencing hearing on Sept. 4 in Linn County Circuit Court after appearing in a status check hearing Monday morning, Aug. 19.
