SH School District administrator Goetz placed on paid leave

Dave Goetz, human resources, maintenance and transportation supervisor for School District 55, was placed on administrative leave beginning on Feb. 3, according to Supt. Keith Winslow.

“I think our lawyers are working together on this,” Winslow said, but as of Monday, he could not explain why.

While Goetz is on leave, Business Manager Kevin Strong will handle human resources duties, while Winslow is supervising maintenance and transportation.

Goetz did not respond to phone or text messages by press time.

Goetz has been an employee of District 55 since 2006, when he went to work as vice principal and athletic director at Sweet Home High School. He worked as vice principal and athletic director at Sweet Home Junior High School before becoming human resources, maintenance and transportation supervisor.

He came to Sweet Home from St. Helens School Distict, where he was K-12 coordinator for education programs and special projects. He was assistant principal at St. Helens High School from 2001 to 2005. His first administration position was as assistant principal at Siuslaw High School in Florence in 2000. Previously, he taught physical education and health at Sutherlin High School.

Goetz had been named in an unfair labor practice complaint against the School District, which was filed in early December 2014. The classified union, the Oregon School Employee’s Association, alleged that he had asked questions of transportation employees about a union meeting.

“We’re basically on hold,” Winslow said. Both the district’s and Goetz’s lawyers have asked the labor judge to hold off a couple of weeks until an issue that prompted the administrative leave is resolved, he said.
