SH seniors named to All-Stars baseball teams

Austin Mizsei of Sweet Home has been selected to play in this year’s 3A-2A-1A All-Star Baseball Series at Linfield College in McMinnville.

Joining Mizsei, who played at East Linn Christian Acadmey, are Josh Gergig and Jake Bates of Lebanon.

The Eagles finished 12-4 in league in their second year of baseball, and barely missed a shot at state playoffs. Mizsei was named first-team outfielder in league and voted unanimously first-team all-state.

Mizsei played JBO baseball in Sweet Home with the Boys and Girls Club with coaches Leon Olson Jr. and Lonnie Keenon from Midget American through Senior American.

Mizsei played his freshman year as a home-schooler on the Sweet Home High School JV team. He attended East Linn his sophomore year but played for Matt Matuszak on the SHHS varsity team because East Linn did not have a baseball team.

Mizsei will play with the Mid-Valley Rockets Legion baseball team until he leaves for the Army in late July. He plans to become a U.S. Army Airborne Ranger.

From Sweet Home High School, Kory VanDeusen and Brandon Marquez, both pitchers, have been selected to the 4A All-Stars Series North Team.

The two will play at 7 p.m. on June 15 and noon on June 16 at the Legion Field in Roseburg.
