A team from Germany will compete against area wrestlers at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Sweet Home High School Main Gym.
Admission is $3.
Sweet Home Coach Steve Thorpe said the Germans are visiting Oregon as part of a reciprocal tour.
Oregon will send its team of qualifying wrestlers, including Tyler Schilling of Sweet Home, on a three-week visit in late July.
The Germans started their visit with a beach wrestling tournament in Tillamook, and then stopped at Oregon State University before visiting Sweet Home. Other stops have included or will include Stayton, Salem, Springfield and Central Oregon.
The Mid-Valley team that will wrestle Thursday will include wrestlers from Sweet Home, Stayton and South Albany.
“We’re going to wrestle them as kind of a Valley all-star type thing,” Thorpe said.
He noted that Sweet Home’s Tyler Cowger and Wade Paulus will leave Friday to wrestle at the Concord Cup World Greco-Roman championships in California this weekend, the largest Greco tournament in the United States for the FILA cadet-junior division.
