The water rates in Sweet Home are some of the highest in the state of Oregon. Now customers are expected to pay an additional $12 a month more beginning on July 1, 2014.
In a community where few jobs are available and many families and senior citizens are trying to survive on low or fixed incomes, these prohibitive high rates are real hardships.
Many cannot afford to water their lawns or use indoor water as often as needed. Others choose to buy bottled water in place of drinking the insipid city water. What are we getting for our money?
Yet we are once again expected to cover the costs of the City Hall mismanagement of the community’s funds.
