A Sweet Home woman escaped injury in a Fourth of July collision between an ATV and a Jeep outside of Harrisburg, Linn County Undersheriff Jim Yon said.
At 7:50 p.m. on July 4, deputies responded to Territorial Road near Powerline Road, east of Harrisburg, for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and ATV.
Yon said a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Bobby Junior Hill, 27, of Springfield was traveling west on Territorial Road at 45 mph when a three-wheeled ATV operated by Zackary Trey Culpepper, 18, of Harrisburg, crossed the road in front of the Jeep.
The Cherokee was not able to stop and struck the ATV.
Hill told deputies that he and Melissa Lynn Cronin, 29, of Sweet Home, were on their way to watch the fireworks display in Harrisburg.
Culpepper was working at a farm near the location and was crossing the road to put the ATV away when the crash occurred.
REACH Air Medical Services transported Culpepper to Riverbend Hospital for head injuries. He sustained a concussion and bruising to his hip and back and was not wearing a helmet, Yon said.
Neither Cronin nor Hill was injured in the crash.
Yon said alcohol consumption, illegal drugs, and speed were not factors in the crash.
