SHARC Showdown brings local talent together

The third annual SHARC Showdown talent show, a fund-raiser for the renovation of the high school auditorium, gave some local youths and adults a chance to perform and compete for prize money Saturday night in the auditorium. Below, emcee Don Knight trades barbs with Steve Martin, who competed with a humorous song called “Mechanical Girl.” Below right, winner Hannah Wible belts out Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away.” In the adult division, Cathy Cheshire placed first performing “Jolene, winning $500; Sherwood placed second playing a guitar solo, winning $250; and Martin finished third, winning $100. In the children’s division, ages 12 and under, Wible placed first, winning a laptop; Janae Ashton placed second singing an original song and winning an iPod and iTunes gift card; and Allison Keel placed third, playing a selection on the cornet to win a karaoke machine. The talent contest raised nearly $150 toward the ongoing auditorium improvement project. Steve Magnolia provided sound, and Kris Ceccato of Staccato Entertainment Solutions provided lighting. Judges were retired music teacher Ken Collins, The New Era Publisher Scott Swanson and Karen Craig, who served as production director with the Board of Directors for the Chino Community Children’s Theater for more than 12 years.
