The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District’s Christmas for Kids Sharing Tree Program and Sweet Home Emergency Ministry’s Christmas Food Basket program have kicked off for the 2019 holiday season.
In the Sharing Tree toy program, names of children and families are written on tags that are then placed on the tree, located at the Fire Station, 1099 Long St. Anyone wanting to help those in need should come to the Fire Station and choose a name or names from the tree. Donors can contribute for an entire family if they so choose.
Purchase the item(s) on the tag, wrap the gifts, and then return them to the Fire Department by Dec. 13t. The tags that are left on the sharing tree will be taken by the local fire department personnel who will purchase gifts to fill those requests. Those requesting gifts will be able to pick up their gifts from the Fire Department beginning Dec. 16.
Individuals or families who wish to have a child’s name placed on the “Christmas Sharing Tree” need to fill out a request form available at the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District office at 1099 Long St.
The deadline for returning forms to the fire department is Friday, Nov. 22.
Cash donations to the “Christmas for Kids Sharing Tree” toy program may be made at the Fire and Ambulance District office located at 1099 Long Street, between the hours of 8 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. All cash donations will be used to purchase toys ad needed clothing for local children.
The names of children and families needing assistance will begin to be placed on the “Sharing Tree” at the Fire Department starting Nov. 11.
Forms for the Christmas Food Basket Program need to be picked up at SHEM, at 1115 Long St. SHEM will prepare food baskets for delivery in time for Christmas. For those who would like to donate to the Food Basket Program, SHEM accepts cash, clothing and non-perishable food items. Contributions to this much-needed program are much-appreciated.
