Shawn “Chief” Dale Caviness, 39, died March 17, 2006 in Albany.
He was born Dec. 11, 1966 in Owyhee, Nev., to Clyde Caviness and Geraldine Garber. He graduated with honors from Sweet Home High School in 1985.
After high school, he entered the U.S. Army, graduating in October 1986 from the aircraft power plant repair program. He was honorably discharged in January 1988, after which he worked in Albany for Smoke Craft, later known as Oberto’s, and then Hewlett Packard in Corvallis.
Mr. Caviness’s greatest love was his daughter, Samantha. He enjoyed video games, music, movies, hanging out with friends, and was a talented artist.
He is survived by his daughter, Samantha, of Albany; mother, Geraldine Garber and father, Clyde Caviness, both of Sweet Home; sisters Judie Pritt, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Shannon Fincher of Sweet Home, Sherrill Caviness of Portland; brother and sister-in-law, Shane and Bambi Caviness of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Gary Caviness of Mount Hood, Bud Caviness of Portland and Ed Caviness of Middleton, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his special friend, Sheryl Grissom; step-father, Elmer Garber; sister, Amy Maisto, and his grandparents.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel, which is handling the arrangements.
