SHEM needs help this fall

Editor:

The changing of the seasons has started. The trees are switching into their fall colors. The hunters are making preparations for their annual hunting trips if they have not done so already. I’m beginning to think about Christmas.

The help requested of Sweet Home Emergency Ministries keeps growing. We are preparing 15 more food boxes per month than the same time last year. Last month, the food boxes helped feed 1,080 people. One hundred twenty people came to eat hot meals at Manna.

With these figures in mind, I’m asking you to start thinking about Christmas also. The Sweet Home community is incredibly giving, but the need is so great. More families than ever will be requesting Christmas boxes. Please try to determine how many families you, your church or your organization can help to enjoy the holiday season.

I have another holiday request. I need Salvation Army bell ringers for the Saturdays after Thanksgiving. The money raised by these efforts is used to purchase the backpacks for the Back to School program. I would like to be able to purchase larger backpacks for the older students if possible. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me at 367-6504.

Thank you for keeping SHEM in your prayers.
