John Lovik, 42, a sergeant with Linn County Sheriff’s Office, was charged with fourth-degree assault and harassment on Friday.
Capt. Bruce Riley said that, following standard procedure, allegations against Lovik were referred to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and Linn County District Attorney Jason Carlile asked Benton County District Attorney John Haroldson to review the case.
A Linn County grand jury reviewed the case and indicted Lovik.
Lovik was placed on administrative leave about two weeks ago, Riley said, noting that that is standard procedure in such cases.
He said he could not provide further details on the case because it is part of an ongoing investigation and another agency’s investigation.
Haroldson did not return a call Monday afternoon prior to press time.
