SHFAD moving toward filling its vacancies

The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District is conducting interviews to fill Diane Shank’s administrative assistant position, and beginning the evaluation process for a new fire chief to succeed Mike Beaver.

Both have announced they will retire at the end of the fiscal year, June 30.

The district received approximately 60 applications for the administrative assistant position, said board President Dawn Mitchell. The board is hoping to hire someone by the beginning of March and have that person start by the middle or end of March, allowing time to give notice to a current employer.

The fire district has been working with the Special Districts Association of Oregon in its search for a fire chief, Mitchell said.

“We have been screening applications,” Mitchell said. “we are getting ready to invite some gentlemen to an evaluative panel.”

The district has received 17 applications for fire chief, she said. After evaluation, background checks and interviews, the board hopes to have someone working by the beginning of June, giving him or her a chance to shadow Beaver.
