Art week at Sweet Home High School begins on Monday with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the school library.
“There’s a lot of students working on it,” said art teacher Gelindo Ferrin. From first and second trimester students, more than 300 pieces will remain on display there through the end of March.
The public is invited to attend the reception and vote on favorite pieces, Ferrin said. He has increased the money award for the show, with $100 going to first place, $75 for second; and $50 for third. He also will award two or three honorable mentions.
People can vote throughout the week, and art will be on sale throughout the month, Ferrin said. Of the sale price, 80 percent goes to the student artist and 20 percent to the art department.
“It gives them the experience of setting up a show, kind of the experience of running a gallery,” Ferrin said.
An assembly is planned for approximately 10:15 a.m. on Friday in the high school auditorium to showcase the winners of the art show, Ferrin said. The assembly will include performances from the choir, band and drama students.
The public is invited to the assembly as well, he said.
