SHHS choir earns Etiquette award at Capital Showcase

The SHHS choir received the Etiquette Award during the recent “Choir Showcase” held at North Marion High School.

Director Dean Friesen’s vocalists were honored with the award that “recognizes our support of other choirs as well as our professional behavior.”

“I am extremely pleased with these young men and women,” Mr. Friesen said.

The award is voted on by other choir directors throughout the district.

“I learned that choir is a great experience and we worked hard to get there,” said Danielle Burns. “I am looking forward to the Showcase next year.”

For Becky Claunch, the Showcase provided choir members an opportunity to “share our voices with so many other talented people who also shared with us.”

Jackie Jarrell said the Showcase drove home the importance of being a team.

“Being a team is very important,” she said. “If you can’t work together, you won’t get anywhere in choir or in life.”

The Showcase was a stepping stone toward the choir’s overall goals, Amanda Kilpatrick said. “The festival was a learning experience for everyone, whether it was about music or each other.”
