Sweet Home High School graduate Jesse Robertson finished 13th recently in welding at the national VICA Skills Contest held in Kansas City, Mo.
Robertson, a 2003 LBCC graduate, earned the opportunity to compete by winning a pre qualifying contest at the college. He earned a 3.75 GPA at LBCC and is employed at B and D Custom Fab in Albany.
“I enjoy taking old stuff, worthless stuff, and creating something good out of it,” Robertson said.
Robertson began learning to weld as a freshman at SHHS. He said the competition was a mixture of numerous styles ranging from stick welding to TIG, flame cutting and more.
“There were about 38 people competing in the post-secondary category,” Robertson said. “In all, there were hundreds of kids.”
