SHHS Softball Running into Playoffs

The Sweet Home softball team (10-15) had a good season, taking third in the 4A-3 Oregon West Conference and making it to the play-in contest. Their first game was against Junction City.

In order to make it to the playoffs, a team must place in the top three in their league. Defined by the OSAA website, 12 teams automatically qualify for the OSAA’s 16-team bracket based on regular season and/or district tournament play on or before Monday, May 13. Each league determines how they will select their allotted playoff spots.

Eight other teams will qualify as play-in teams, where if they win, they will advance into the 16-team bracket. Those teams were Sweet Home, Junction City, Baker/Powder Valley, Marist Catholic, Cottage Grove, Estacada, Phoenix and Scappoose.

Sweet Home played against Junction City in their play-in contest, May 17. This game ended, 13-8 in favor of the Huskies.

“The girls had a good game against Junction City,” Head Coach Emily Marchbanks said. “We hit well, and continued to apply pressure to their defense.”

Now that the Huskies have made it to the playoffs, they’re officially a part of the 16-team bracket. They will be playing their first game versus Henley, Tuesday, May 21.
