A 28-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stealing some $90,000 from his grandparents over several years, Sweet Home police announced.
Sean H. Steinborn of Sweet Home was arrested on charges of first-degree aggravated theft, identity theft, computer crime, and criminal mistreatment.
The case was investigated by Officer Jayson Sanchez, who received the assignment after completing his officer training in July 2024. Sanchez worked the case through to completion, which is common for the department’s patrol-level officers. The length of the investigation was extended due to the turnaround time for financial records, obtained via a subpoena
request process.
The victims in this case were Steinborn’s grandparents, also Sweet Home residents, who lost around $90,000 in unauthorized transactions over the course of several years. The investigation showed
that at least part of the missing money was likely used in the form of “Zelle” transfers to Door Dash, Playstation Network, Walmart.com, and Amazon.
Steinborn was booked into the Linn County Jail on the above charges.
