Sweet Home Swimming Club member Josie Hewitt won a state championship in the 200 Breaststroke at the Oregon State Short Course Championships in February.
Hewitt, an eighth-grader, was one of two local swimmers to qualify for the Senior Sectionals in Federal Way, Wash.
The other was fellow eighth-grader Chloe Tyler, who placed third in the 200 Backstroke.
Five swimmers represented the Sweet Home club at the state meet, all of whom qualified to be there. The state meet draws the best swimmers in the state in their age groups.
The section meet will match up swimmers from eight western states.
At the state meet, Hewitt won the 200 Breaststroke in 2:23.79; placed second in the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.13), fourth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:15.7); seventh in the 200 Freestyle (2:04.27), and 16th in the 200 Butterfly (1:34.56).
Tyler was third in the 200 Backstroke (2:13.98), fourth in the 100 Backstroke (1.03.02), fifth in the 500 Freestyle (5:24.46), fifth in the 200 Freestyle (2:01.32), sixth in the 100 Freestyle (55.99), and ninth in the 200 IM (2:21.69).
Jamie Seward placed 15th in the 200 Backstroke (2.19.69) and 18th in the 100 Backstroke (1.04.15).
Kirsten Sautel, 10, placed ninth in the 50 Breast in 40.51; 12th in the 100 Breast (1:32.17), 16th in the 50 Free (31.37) and 16th in the 100 Backstroke (1:21.25).
Khloe Sautel, 8, placed 12th in the 100 Freestyle (1:26.06), 12th in the 50 Free (36.82), 12th in the 25 Backstroke (20.60) and 18th in the 50 Backstroke (46.49).
