The Singing Christmas Tree is starting rehearsals for its 2017 performance year, themed “The Love of Christmas,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in the Sweet Home High School Choir Room.
Anyone over the age of 12 (seventh grade) may join. Participants are asked to commit themselves to the rehearsal schedule as much as possible. Consideration will be made for students active in sports or who have jobs that require attendance.
Adults are asked to be at a majority of the rehearsals. Roll-call sign-in will be taken at each rehearsal.
No fees are charged for choir members or volunteer assistants. All money for the Tree is received through grants and donations from the public or from businesses.
This year, a new program is being introduced for high school students. Those who give volunteer hours to the non-profit organization, either by participating in the choir or assisting in other ways, will be eligible for limited financial assistance for special fine arts fees and community event fees for which they are chosen to participate. Eligibility for the program is also extended to past volunteers.
Band, choral music and art and theater teachers at Sweet Home High School will have information on this program.
