The Sweet Home Mat Club finished up its Folkstyle wrestling season placing six wrestlers at the state tournament this past weekend.”Our wrestlers came out and all wrestled a great tournament, showed excellent sportsmanship and finished the season in excellent form,” said Coach Steve Schilling. “Our only disappointments of the day came from their bracketing system costing a couple of our kids their placing.”
Colton Schilling (7-1) placed third at 70-pound Novice, losing only one match, a 2-1 decision.
Luke Melbye and Tyler Schilling, in a repeat performance of last year, placed fifth and sixth places in the 55-pound Midget bracket.
Additional placers were Chase Branson, second at 70-pound Bantam, Nate Melcher, fifth at 130-pound Novice and Kris Newport, fifth at 105-pound Schoolboy.
Also representing Sweet Home were Austin Bruijn, Tyler Holly, Colton Holly, Jake Jewell, Brandon Keenon, Chris Melcher, Mat Pitts and Ian Search.
The meet was essentially the end of the Mat Club for the season.
“We may have a few kids doing freestyle/greco wrestling and Reno World tournament, but most are moving onto baseball,” Schilling said. “We’d like to thank all the parents for supporting their children throughout the season. Once again we have topped our numbers of kids wrestling at tournaments and this is where the kids get the experience that makes them better.”
