Of The New Era
Six girls have been named to the Sportsman’s Holiday Court.
They include Larissa Bjornsen, Tracy Smith, Ella Butler, Alyssa Logan, Dany Petermen and Allison Rice.
Sixteen girls were interviewed by judges Mary Sue Reynolds, Kristin Adams and Chelsea Frick on Dec. 14-15. Their selections were effective at the first of the year. Frick is also a chaperone.
“It was a difficult decision,” court chaperone Wendy Younger said. “Any of the girls would’ve represented the court very well.”
The points were “very close,” she said. “We basically took the top six ranked girls. I think they’re going to be an outstanding group.
“The basic function of the court is to represent Sweet Home. Basically, they go out and promote Sportsman’s Holiday activities and the event.”
They let other communities hear about what Sweet Home does, Younger said. Their first event as a court function was the coronation of 2008 Rodeo Queen Cera Kem on Jan. 19.
They will attend the next Chamber of Commerce after-hours program at Sweet Home Auto Body on Jan. 23.
“We want the chamber board and the downtown businesses to meet the girls,” Younger said. “we want the girls to become familiar with Sweet Home.”
The March 8 Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet will be “the first event when they’re really active,” Younger said. They’ll hand out door prizes and sell 50-50 raffle tickets while sharing a table with the Sweet Home Rodeo Court.
Through their coronation just before Sportsman’s Holiday the second weekend in July, they will sell raffle tickets for prizes awarded during their coronation ceremony.
