SLCH Auxiliary offers scholarships

Applications for the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital (SLCH) Auxiliary Scholarships are now available for residents of east Linn County.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must show their primary residence to be in Brownsville, Cascadia, Crabtree, Crawfordsville, Foster, Halsey, Lacomb, Lebanon, Scio, Shedd, Sweet Home, Tangent or Waterloo. Additionally, applicants must be attending college and majoring in a medical field.

The SLCH Auxiliary, which is made up of 175 members, promotes health care services withing the hospital and the east Linn community. It accomplishes this responsibility in many ways, one of which is to hold fund-raising events to earn money for various projects. Some of the activities include running the hospital gift shop, holding book and scrub sales and serving at concession stands at Concerts in the PArk and the Rollin’ Oldies Car Show in Lebanon. All of this hard work enables the Auxiliary to give back to the community.

“For 22 years, the Auxiliary has had the privilege of offering these scholarships to individuals in our local community,” Roxie Snyder, manager of volunteer services at SLCH, said. “The Auxiliary began by giving $500 and now, over the last four years we’ve been able to offer $1,000.”

Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in March 2004. Applications and additional information are available through the SLCH Volunteer Services office or by calling 451-7062. Applications are due on Feb. 23, 2004.
