Small Intense Fire Near Safeway Quickly Contained

The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to calls about a small miscellaneous fire located just behind Safeway, Oct. 14.

According to the on scene Battalion Chief Randy Whitfield, this was a very robust fire. Both ends of the fire were rapidly spreading with one arm of the fire heading towards a warehouse towards the east.

Whitfield got to work, tending to the fire after signaling for the first alarm. With water still in his brush rig, Whitfield was able to cool off portions of the fire while crews made their way to it.

The fire stretched to about an eighth of an acre before the responding crews were able to extinguish. Engine 25, a pumper tender and brush rig 25 were all able to help extinguish the flames.

According to Whitfield, the cause of the fire was unknown, with it potentially being started from a small campfire. No substantial damage was done to the surrounding area.
