Softball: Huskies defeat Sisters behind no-hitter from Maddie Harris

Sweet Home’s softball held onto its third-place position in the 4A-3 Oregon West Conference with a routine 8-0 victory at Sisters on Wednesday, May 4.

But the performance from the circle for the Huskies (15-5) was anything but routine, as Maddie Harris threw a no-hitter.

The senior hurler struck out 11 and only allowed one walk in seven innings.

“She went the distance and showed composure and senior leadership,” Head Coach Karyn Hartsook said of Harris.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when Harris did some damage on the offensive side of things, singling to right field and scoring Mykal Johnston.

Later in the inning, Harris scored when Makayla Guthrie grounded into a fielder’s choice. Sweet Home recorded its third run of the inning when Brooke Burke stole home.

Burke drew a walk in the top of the fifth inning, scoring Adaira Sleutel and making the score 4-0 Sweet Home. In the top of the seventh, Harris and Chloe Fairchild scored on some errant throws by the Outlaws. Later in the inning, Riley Watkins laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Burke. The run spree was capped off when Adisen Graber grounded out, scoring Guthrie.

Sweet Home recorded 12 hits in the game and only made one error.

Along with her dominant pitching performance, Harris also led the team with three RBIs. Burke, Guthrie, Watkins and Graber each recorded an RBI apiece for the Huskies.

Sweet Home beat Sisters again on Monday, May 9 at home by a score of 16-10. Stats were not available before The New Era’s deadline.
