The Husky softball team won two of three games last week to increase its win-loss record to 3-1.
The Huskies defeated Lebanon on Thursday at Lebanon 8-3.
The Huskies took a 2-1 lead in the first inning, adding a run in the third and fourth innings and four runs in the sixth inning. Lebanon scored two more runs in the seventh.
Heather Wall pitched the game giving up seven hits and striking out one batter.
At bats, Wall went 2-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in. Teresa Lewis went 2-3, and Kaci Trask went 2-2.
The Huskies followed up hosting a doubleheader with Junction City on Friday.
Junction City scored the first run of the contest in the fifth. The Huskies started the sixth inning with a double from Lewis. Amanda Burcham singled to round out the inning with two runs.
“That was just a great game between quality teams,” Coach Rob Younger said. “I was really pleased that we came back and scored two in the sixth.
“I thought Heather through really good,” Coach Younger said. She had some nice weather and was able to relax and throw. Wall struck out seven batters and allowed only three hits.
In the next game, Junction City “just came out and really hit the ball well,” Coach Younger said.
Junction City scored two in the first, one in the second, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Mahria Zook scored Lewis on a triple in the fifth.
The game was Summer Guthrie’s first varsity effort. She gave up 13 hits.
“I was pleased with her getting out and competing at that level,” Coach Younger said. She kept getting better as the game went on.
“Amanda Burcham is doing a great job catching,” Coach Younger said.
Coach Younger is happy with the team where it is now. In those three games, the Huskies had only four errors and three of the Huskies’ first four games were wins.
The Huskies are taking a little time off this week before facing Pleasant Hill in a doubleheader Friday. From there, they move into league play against Cascade on Tuesday.
Cascade is a league favorite and expected to be a playoff team, Coach Younger said. The game will help show the Huskies how they compare to the conference.
