Softball: Sweet Home falls to Amity at Redmond

In its final game at the Redmond Invite on Tuesday, March 28, Sweet Home softball lost to Amity 14-4. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

The 3A Warriors (1-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. In the top of the second, Sweet Home got on the board with two runs. Kelsie Rush scored on a passed ball, and Trinity Victor scored on an error.

But Amity scored two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame, three in the third inning, and two in the fourth, bringing the score to 10-2 after four innings.

Sweet Home scored in the top of the fifth when Natalie Smith singled to score Rush, then added another before Amity tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the inning to put the 10-run rule into effect.

The Huskies had eight hits in the game. Smith and Brooke Burke each had two hits to lead the team.

Makalya Guthrie started the game pitching for Sweet Home, surrendering eight runs on seven hits over three innings, striking out three. Jocelyn Fairchild came in relief, allowing six runs on four hits in one and two-thirds innings while walking one.

Sweet Home committed nine errors on defense. Amity only had one.

This week, the Huskies (1-4) host Marshfield (7-1, No. 8) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5. They then play at Cottage Grove (4-3) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 6.
