The Huskies defeated league rival Junction City 13-8 but lost 11-1 to North Marion in the North Marion Spring Break Series held on Friday.
SH 13, Junction City 8
The Huskies built a dominating lead early on, scoring three runs in the first, five in the second and two more in the third to lead Junction City 10-3.
Both teams scored there more runs in the fourth inning. Junction City scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
“We hit the ball pretty good,” said Coach Shane Cochran. “They made a few errors.”
Junction City was pretty weak on defense, and the Huskies were able to get on base and score, he said. “They hit the ball there for a little bit, and we walked some batters.
“We’ve got some things to work on, defense and offense.”
The outfield committed a few errors, and “we just need to hit the ball a little better,” Cochran said.
Sierra Thayer led the Huskies with two hits. Contributing hits were Sarita Zanona, Natalie Thorpe, Madi Barringer, Makenna Melbye, Britney Zook and Maddee Hawken.
Zanona pitched the full game, giving up 10 hits, four walks and four earned runs, with one strikeout.

Sweet Home didn’t hit well and made some costly errors, Cochran said.

North Marion led 1-0 after one inning. The Huskies tied it up in the fourth, but North Marion broke free in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs.
North Marion held the Huskies to just four hits, from Thorpe, Thayer, Caytlin Gillespie and Hawken.
Cochran said North Marion’s pitcher was about average.

Zanona closed the game, pitching 1.5 innings, walking four, striking out three and giving up four hits.
As the Huskies prepare to begin league on Monday, “it’s going just all right,” Cochran said. “We need to get a few things figured out.”
