Sweet Home 1, North Marion 0
The Husky softball team topped North Marion 1-0 in its only outing last week.
“A long week of weather washed out our only scheduled league game this week against Taft,” Coach Steve Hummer said. “This time of year gets really tricky, trying to fight the weather, wondering if you are going to play every day and wondering where we will play.
“We got a good day of weather on Friday and renewed our old Capital Conference rivalry with North Marion.”
On the road, “Mac (Makenzie Marchbanks) was simply tough today, striking out 16, which is a season,” Hummer said. She gave up three hits and two walks.
The score remained tied at zeros until the sixth inning when “Sarah Brocard drew a one-out walk and Olivia Lake doubled to the left center field gap, picking up the game-winning RBI for the second game in a row,” Hummer said.
The Huskies are now 10-3 overall and 3-1 in league.
“This week will be huge for us,” Hummer said. “We play at Newport, at Taft and at home on Friday against Central. We are currently tied with Central with one loss in league.
“This week will go a long way in sorting out the league championship or simply muddying the waters more. We hope to have a crystal clear look at what our future holds by sweeping three games and taking the lead in the Val-Co.”
