Central 2

Despite playing good games, the Husky softball team finished a week of losses at Central, 2-1, on Thursday.
“The Central game I thought we played well,” Coach Rob Younger said. “Overall, I thought it was just a very good defensive game by both teams.”
Central brought a run in at the bottom of the third inning. The Huskies followed up with a run in the top of the fourth, but Central got the win on a run in the sixth.
Central is 5-0 in league.
“It shows you how close we are to competing as the best team in the league,” Coach Younger said. “It’s just we’ve got to start doing the little things.”
Those little things include consistency in the field and hitting the ball, putting together hits and making “clutch two-out run-producing hits, which we’re not getting,” Coach Younger said.
Right now in league, this team has lost four games by a total of six runs, and that was after a 5-2 loss to Stayton on the road on April 17.
“The Stayton game is probably one of our better games,” Coach Younger said. Stayton hit the ball well that day. The Huskies lost a game at home to North Marion 2-1 the day before.
“Our league is very balanced,” Coach Younger said. “We’ve just got to do the little things to make it successful.”
With the losses, the Huskies are 2-4 in league play and 7-9 overall.
They start the second half of league play this week.
“Now, it’s important to turn the close games around and starting getting W’s,” Coach Younger said.
The Huskies next face Molalla at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at home.
