Sonita “Jean” Swaney, 66, died on Feb. 9, 2006 in Tucson, Ariz.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1939 to Harold and Eula Fleener in Tuscola, Ill.
She married Gerald Swaney on Sept. 7, 1957 and celebrated more than 48 years of marriage to him. They had four children, three girls and a boy.
In 1969, they moved from Illinois to California where they lived for 34 years. They then moved to Arizona in July 2003. She spent her winters in the warm sun of Arizona and her summers in the great weather of Oregon for several years.
Her favorite hobby was to crochet and her many grandchildren. She spent hours and hours making blankets and baby clothes. She also made a point to attend her grandchildren’s events. She also loved taking cruises and traveling by motor home.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Swaney; her daughters and their husbands, Katrina and Gilbert Long of Sweet Home, Belinda and Dave DeVeny of Tucson, Ariz., and LaNita and Dave Scholl of Moreno Valley, Calif.; son and wife, Jeff and Lettie Swaney of Garden Grove, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
No services are being held. Contributions in her memory can be given to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Foundation.
