Spikers fall to Central, Newport

Central 25, 25, 25

Sweet Home 18, 15, 12

The Central Panthers overcame initial Husky resistance on the volleyball court on Oct. 10 to win 25-18, 25-15 and 25-12 in Sweet Home.

The Huskies pushed the Panthers out of their system in the first game, Coach Debbie Danielson said. “That was probably our best game ever.”

Central is ranked in the top 10 statewide, she said. “To be ahead of them was a big deal.”

The Huskies played well offensively in the first game and “weren’t making as many errors at the net,” she said. “We’d serve to their best hitters. It’s tough to serve receive and then hit.”

The Huskies lost in three games, 25-16, 25-9 and 25-18, on Oct. 8 to Newport on the road.

“Newport dominated us with their offensive game,” Danielson said. “We were able to serve tough though and put them out of system a few times. We played scrappy and had some long rallies.”
