Sweet Home’s volleyball team’s winning streak ended Saturday in the championship bracket of the Sisters Tournament with a loss to then-No. 3 and defending state champion Valley Catholic.
The Huskies won the first game 25-23, but the Valiants took the next two, 25-10, 15-13, to move on to the semifinals. Until they met the Valients, Sweet Home had not lost a set this season.
It was a topsy-turvy afternoon for the state’s top teams.
Sisters ended up winning the tournament, beating Philomath, which had just beaten Valley Catholic in the semifinals, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13. Sisters downed the Warriors 25-13, 25-19.
Coach Mary Hutchins was unavailable for comment following the tournament.
The Huskies, who were ranked No. 3 in the state after the Sisters Tournament, bounced back Monday night, Sept. 23, with a win at Cascade, 25-13, 25-17, 25-7.
Earlier last week the Huskies beat Stayton 25-15, 25-10, 25-15, on Sept. 17, and Molalla in a nonleague matchup on Sept. 19, 25-11, 25-12, 25-17, both on the road.
The Huskies(4-0, 9-1) host now-No. 2 Sisters (5-0, 14-1) in a matchup of the league’s top teams, both 4-0, at 6 p.m. Thursday. Sept. 26, in the Main Gym.
