Taft 25, 25, 23, 25
Sweet Home 12, 17, 25, 18
The Huskies lost a key game on Oct. 2 to Taft on the road, losing 25-12 and 25-17, winning 25-23 and then losing 25-18.
“We needed to win that one really badly,” Coach Debbie Danielson said. Taft played well, with a slow-paced style that again was hard to overcome.
“So that was a bummer,” she said. “That kind of hurts as far as playoffs go.”
For the match, Paige Niemi served 10-11 with three aces and Sam Johnson went 14-15 with five aces.
Jess Seiber had eight kills. Michelle Morneault and Hillary McCartin each had five kills.
The girls had fun at Seaside over the weekend, but didn’t do so well on the court, Danielson said. They lost games against tough La Grande, 25-14 and 25-6 and then to Astoria, 25-9 and 25-16, and Cascade, 25-9 and 25-16.
In bracket play, Banks defeated the Huskies 25-14 and 25-9.
On Thursday last week, with a bye in their league schedule, the Huskies gave a free Boys and Girls Club clinic to about 35 children in the fourth through sixth grade.
They will be back in action at 7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 10, at home against Central.
