Faith Black, 15, is the daughter of Robert and Angela Burger and Richard and Katie Black.
Black is one of five princesses on the Sportsman’s Holiday Court. The others are Kayleen Keeney, Sierrah Owen, Lilly Parker and Isabelle Stratman. One will be chosen as queen on July 10 and the court will serve during the Sportsman’s Holiday celebration July 12.
“I want to be a good role model for all kids in the Sweet Home area,” she said.
Part of serving on the court is its learning experiences.
“I have learned how to speak up in front of an audience,” Black said.
After high school, she plans to attend college to study photography, painting, animal behavior and biology.
Black’s mom has had the biggest influence on her life, she said. “My mom is very involved in the community. People adore my mom. I want to be outgoing and fun like my mom. I have always admired her for being Miss Washington County Rodeo Queen. My mom is always there for me for whenever or whatever I need. She lends a hand to those who need help and she is always a great friend.”
Ten years into the future, “I would like to be living on the coast where I would have my own little art studio and give children lessons in photography and painting. I also would want to have some land so I can have my animals with me.”
Black has three siblings, Lindsey Black, 31; Alex Black, 29; and Christian Black, 13.
She is involved in her high school dance team, Sweet Home Cleanup, the Media Club, Rhinestone Riders 4-H and helping Linn County Animal Rescue.
In dance, she has lettered twice and is team co-captain. In 4-H, she has won the county medal, premier in trail and premier in showmanship with horses. She won all-around horsemanship in 2011 and numerous ribbons in horses and cavies. She is a 7-year member of Linn County 4-H and an Ambassador for Linn County 4-H as a junior supervisor. She has won numerous awards in art and received honorable mention in the Best of High School/College Photography in 2013. She won honorable mention in Photographer’s Forum Magazine and honorable mention in the High School art show for painting and drawing.
