Sportsman’s Holiday festivities to include junior court

Ten children are members of a new Junior Sportsman’s Holiday Court that has been established this year.

Karla Burcham and 2017 First Princess Kylie Armstrong are coordinating the group.

“The last time there was a junior court was in 2007,” Burcham said. “And Kylie was on the junior court. We thought it would be kind of cool that she coordinate the junior court. I just wanted to do it again with Kylie, and I want to promote Sportsman’s Holiday.”

The most recent time Sweet Home had a junior court was in the 1970s, Burcham said.

Burcham and Mary Sue Reynolds, who had coordinated the Sportsman’s Holiday Court together for years prior, decided in 2007 to bring it back.

“Mary Sue and I did it that one year just for fun,” Burcham said.

“It was so much fun,” Armstrong said. “It’s why I signed up last year (for the Sportsman’s Holiday Court).”

It was a one-time activity in 2007, but “I kind of want to keep doing it,” with assistance from the reigning court, Armstrong said. “I love kids too.”

“We’ll do it again next year,” Burcham said.

The junior court will attend the Sportsman’s Holiday Court Coronation Thursday evening, Chips ‘n’ Splinters Friday evening and the parade and Logger Olympics Saturday.

All members of the junior court are going into the second grade, Burcham said. Parents paid $20, and a community donor provided cash for clothing.

Six girls were selected by a drawing from among Sweet Home schools. All three boys who applied were selected to serve on the court.

“Mary Sue said there were boys when she was on the court,” Burcham said.

Members of the court are the following:

– Kendall Funk, the daughter of Jeff and Becky Funk. She attends Hawthorne Elementary School.

– Brytin Greer, the son of Daniel Greer and Tia Johnston. He attends Oak Heights Elementary School.

– Pyper Hall, the daughter of Michael and Mira Hall. She attends Oak Heights.

– Morgan Lalonde, the daughter of Ben and Renee Lalonde. She attends Holley Elementary School.

– Colten Lindsey, the son of Austin and Robyn Lindsey. He attends Foster.
