Cadet Kellen Ross Petersen, sone of Todd and Michelle Petersen of Sweet Home, has completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy.
Petersen entered the military academy on June 27. Cadets learn basic military skills, including leadership, through a demanding military program that begins on their first day at West Point. Most military training takes place during the summer, with new cadets undergoing Cadet Basic Training ? or Beast Barracks ? the first year.
Military training is combined with military science instruction to provide a solid foundation for officership.
Petersen is a 2005 graduate of Sweet Home High School. He plans to graduate in 2009 from West Point and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Air Force Tech. Sgt. Lisa R. Wakefield has graduated from the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) Academy at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Fla.
Wakefield received instruction in advanced military leadership management theories and responsibilities, oral and written communications skills, and physical fitness fundamentals. The noncommissioned officer performed as a supervisor to learn behavior concepts, problem solving, and counseling techniques relative to the Air Force mission and organization. She learned to orientate new servicemembers in the principles, practices and tools necessary to function in the Air Force.
Wakefield is an inventory management supervisor assigned to the U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb.
She is the daughter of Pat and Diana McDonald of Ninth Ave., Sweet Home. She is a 1986 graduate of Sweet Home High School.
Her husband, Shawn, is the son of Bill Wakefield of 14th Way, Haleyville, Ala.
Army Pvt. Jeremy L. Pierce has graduated from the machinist advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.
Pierce was introduced to machine shop fundamentals including fabricating, repairing, and modifying metallic and nonmetallic parts. The trainee learned to operate machines such as engine lathes, utility grinders, power cutoff saws, armature, undercutters, arbor, hydraulic, and drill presses, and associated attachments, accessories and tools.
He is the son of Robert A. Boehm of Elm St., Sweet Home, and Cindy L. Griffiths of Bend.
Pierce is a 1997 graduate of Bend Senior High School.
