Steven Bond

Steven Kent Bond, formerly of Lebanon, passed away Sept. 18, 2026, in Prineville. He was 71.
He was born Aug. 27,1955, in Lebanon with twin sister Stephanie.
Steve and Stephanie were the first of four children born to parents Ken and Pat Bond.
Born into a logging family, Steve began logging at a very early age with his dad and his brother Bill, mostly greasing log trucks and equipment in the evenings.
By the time he was in high school, he was actively yarder logging with his dad on Saturdays.
He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1974.
Choker setting fit him well and he continued this line of work most of his adult life.
After graduating, he started logging for Willamette Industries for a few years, but, as a self-described tramp logger, he never stayed with one outfit very long. He worked in Southeast Alaska, as well as up and down Oregon and southern Washington.
In 1989 Steve was where he shouldn’t have been when he blew a whistle for the retrieval of a turn on a logging side somewhere in central Oregon, and was thrown in the air 50 feet by an errant log. That experience landed him at St. Charles Hospital in Bend and crippled his shoulder and back, briefly; but life wasn’t over with him yet.
He mostly recovered and continued to log.
Later in life he found skidder logging easier on his body and worked mostly in eastern and central Oregon. He also cut a lot of firewood in his lifetime. Never one to sit idle, he was always busy.
Skidgen operation and dozer line construction was another profession he picked up later in life on the fire line.
Friends and family will always remember his smile and love for others. He was always willing to give the shirt off his back for others; even hitchhikers, whom he often picked up and heard their stories.
Most loggers will remember him for his daredevil tactics, efficiencies in the brush setting chokers and running the skidder.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Peggy Lindquist and Stephanie Salvage; children Renea Bond and Matt Bond; a niece; and many nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia; father Kenneth; and brother Bill.
No funeral service is planned. A family graveside service will take place at Burnt Ranch Cemetery outside of Mitchell, at a date to be determined.
