Dave Bauer of Steelhead Strength and Fitness and Amy Wingo work last week on plans for the April 30 Super Hero Challenge obstacle race at Sankey Park. The event is a fund-raiser for the Senior Alcohol-Free Entertainment party to be held following this year’s Sweet Home High School graduation. Race participants will navigate some 15 obstacles that will include a steep hill climb, balance beam, tire flips, wall climbs, culverts, a straw-bale pyramid, a sand bag carry and a water hazard. Cost will be $45 for contestants 18 or over and $35 for 13- through 17-year-olds. Group entry rates for teams of five or more are also available. All registrants get “Survivor Shirts” produced by SHHS alum Steph Lesire of NoDinx graphic design, and finishers get a medal. Sizes will only be guaranteed through April 20. Finishers will also get to enjoy a “root beer garden” supplied by A&W. Local cross-country coach Andrew “Keebler” Allen is laying out the course, which will extend somewhat over a mile, criss-crossing back and forth through the park and the Sweet Home High School athletic fields.
