Susan May Horner Goldsmith

Susan May Horner Goldsmith

November 26, 1939 – September 6. 2023

Susan was the first of five children born to Amos and Dorma Horner in Lebanon, Oregon. She attended high school in Sweet Home, Oregon, excelling in drama. It was there that she met Curt Gilbertson, and they were married in 1958. The couple raised their five children on dairy farms and beef ranches. Susan was the deal-maker, bookkeeper, and the chief cook and bottle washer. She kept her kids and the calves well-fed, a good mama. The couple divorced in 1979. In 1981, she married Dick Goldsmith and discovered her daredevil side, snowmobiling and jet skiing without fear.

Susan was a beautiful “lady-like” woman. She worshiped the sun and rocked a bikini from Central Oregon to Arizona to Maui. She loved country music and country swing dancing. She was a lover and defender of animals. She was a published author and a hell of a poker player whose professions ranged from realtor to commercial truck driver. Whatever Susan set her mind to, she did it with style.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David Horner, husband Dick Goldsmith, husband Bill Graham, and by her dear son Leif Gilbertson.

Susan is survived by her first husband Curt Gilbertson (wife Judy), her sister-in-law Lorrie Horner, her brother Michael (Pam) Horner, sister Jean Burger (husband Kevin), and brother Lonnie Horner (wife Debbie), her children Wynn Gilbertson (wife Candy), Darcy Gilbertson, Levy Gilbertson, and Chance Gilbertson (wife Morrigan), twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren and one on the way.
