Oregon State Police Bomb Squad members responded Tuesday, Aug. 30, to a suspected explosive device found at the intersection of Long Street and Mountain View Road.
Sweet Home Police Chief Jeff Lynn said police received a report at 10:28 a.m. from a citizen who had been walking in the area. An officer responded and located the item on the southeast corner of the intersection, near the sidewalk. Lynn said it was the size of a milk jug and had a fuse extending from it.
Both Long Street and Mountain View Road at the intersection were closed for approximately three hours, for safety concerns. There are no houses in the direct area of the intersection.
The Oregon State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was contacted, responded and removed the item safely.
It was discovered to have been an illegal firework that had been placed in a plastic container, Lynn said.
The Sweet Home Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Officer David Hickcox at (541) 367-5181.
